As a new school year, Fall Sports schedules and FCA Huddles are in full swing, I can’t help but think of the potential impact we can have in the lives of kids this year. Proverbs 22:6 rushes my mind back to the locker room of a freshman football game.
As a new school year, Fall Sports schedules and FCA Huddles are in full swing, I can’t help but think of the potential impact we can have in the lives of kids this year. Proverbs 22:6 rushes my mind back to the locker room of a freshman football game. The pep talk that day concerned our effort as a team, but the application would have personal implications for me: “Someone younger than you is watching, and you have the opportunity to be a great example to them. Don’t let them down. Be a leader.” That wasn’t the first (or last) time I heard this truth, but it was the first time it started impacting my decisions. It doesn’t matter who you are or what you do, someone is watching you. The Book of Proverbs says there are only two ways a person can go: The way of wisdom and righteousness or the way of the fool and wickedness. It seems like a sharp divide, with little gray area, though I hope it would cause us to give some thought to how dangerously close we all are to the edge of disaster. One careless word, one foolish action or one vengeful moment and people can be impacted for a lifetime. The same is true about the wisdom of our words, actions and moments. Let’s win this day by setting a good example. Be a leader today. Someone is watching you, and they’re ready to follow in your footsteps. Keep pressing on friends!
